Highly Commended

I was really happy a few weeks back to receive the news that my painting of Brixton Market ‘ Overlooked’ has been highly commended by the Patchings Art Prize this year. This also means it is entered in the ‘Peoples Choice Awards’ at Patchings. You can vote at patchings art centre awards

Artist of the Month @ Studio Upstairs

Studio Upstairs recently opened a new studio and gallery space in central Croydon. They are a wonderful charity who use art as a therapy to support people with mental health difficulties. And I am delighted to be their ‘Artist of the Month’ for the 24th September to 24th October alongside Aquinas Okell .

We will be having an open evening on the 29th September 5pm-7pm if you would like to drop in for a chat and a brows after work!

Croydon Radio Interview

Last week was pretty hectic with the launch of ‘Street Scene Croydon’ at the wonderful Cafe Adagio. When the rush was over I sat down for a chat about the exhibition, life at Stanley Halls, future plans and inspirations with Janet Smith from the Croydon Radio Arts show. Here is the link.

Street Scene Croydon

I’ll be shoflyer1 sharewing some of my most recent Croydon paintings at Cafe Adagio in Addiscombe this August. It’s just round the corner from home and not even round the corner from Addiscombe Tram Stop which is the subject of my painting ‘Walk This Way’ making the choice of flyer image rather straight forward.

There will be a get-together on the 6th Aug 5pm to 7pm at Cafe Adagio, 227 Lower Addiscombe Road and I’d be delighted if you came along. After that the show is up until 2nd September, take a look at the Cafe Adagio website for opening times.

United Society of Artists

I’m really pleased to announce that I was elected a full member of the United Society of Artists at the beginning of the year.  Which means I now get to call myself Bev Jones U.A. if I want to. I have to admit it’s a slightly strange concept still but it’s really nice to be recognised by this very talented group of artists.

The next UA members exhibition is also coming up fast now and will open on the 26th April @ the Bankside Gallery on the South Bank in London. There will be a Private View on the opening evening.and it would be great to see you all there.

Stanley Halls Studio

I’ve been painting in the spare room at home for the past few years so I’m really excited to announce that in the New Year I will be taking a studio for the first time. It will be at Stanley Halls in South Norwood which is a great old building with a fabulous gallery and lots of creative energy going on. If you would like to visit me at the Halls please drop me a line first and I’ll be very happy to show you around.

Croydon University Hospital

I’ve been doing a lot of work with Croydon University Hospital recently and am delighted that they now have two very large sets of six prints and three of my originals. I’m still waiting to find out the eventual homes of one set of prints and the original paintings but the first set of prints on laminate are already brightening up the ‘Yellow Walkway’ just near the outpatient clinic.

A New Day

I’ve been doing lots of early morning walks and runs lately so it’s not too surprising that my latest paintings all seem to focus on early mornings. This on is called ‘A New Day’ and will be at Stanley Halls for the ‘Christmas Shopping Emporium’ this weekend and then at the Clocktower Cafe for December.

Paintings go up for Stanley Halls Open House

The Stanley Halls Gallery was already looking great when I left an hour or so ago after hanging eight original paintings and two prints. Stanley Halls was originally designed and built by William Stanley who also founded the ‘Stanley Works’ of ‘Stanley knife’ fame. It is a grand public building in the true Victorian philanthropic style, built alongside the technical school it has a fine theatre, a well designed gallery with loads of diffuse natural light as well as meeting rooms. The whole space is being lovingly brought back into use by a very enthusiastic local community and it looks like going on to become an excellent addition to the local arts scene.

Tomorrows Open House tours should be really interesting and with the cafe running and art up in the gallery waiting for the tours to get started should be enjoyable too. Everything will be kicking off at 10am and the last tour will be at 4:45pm.

Here are some photos of the paintings going up.
